Even though it has been in the hundreds here and we have not had any rain since the one day the 1st of May, we have a few veggies...
... there are some more blooms on the yellow squash plants but not so much on the zucchini. There are lots and lots of brown leaves but I am stilling watering twice a day in the hopes of getting more squash. The temperatures for this week will still be in the hundreds (yes, every day!) and no rain in sight. And it is only June!
Guess what the grandkids found when they were checking out my herbs...
... a basil eating caterpillar! I think it will become a Monarch butterfly. I hate to disturb him anymore. He had an exciting two days in a bottle (with air vents). The kids had a great time watching him eat and move around the bottle. So he is back in the basil munching away. I think I have enough basil for both of us.
Happy Holidays!

Wow!!!! Great Veggies!!! I'm lovin' those potatoes!!! So glad you have enough Basil for the caterpillar and you, too! As I said on PSat I am in Monahans and boy is it HOT here. Guess I'll be here for another week at least!
Stay Cool!!!
Sue
I'm glad to hear you're getting vegetables in spite of the heat. The only thing I planted was a few flower seeds, and I think the squirrels followed along behind me and ate them almost as soon as I planted them!! We used to call that kind of caterpillar a tomato worm when I was a kid.
Well look at you go! Those potatoes look great. :)
Oh my goodness! Your crop looks great! I'm sorry it's so hot. Yikes! Swim, Susan, swim!
The veggies look wonderful, and what a beautiful caterpillar - monarch to be!
Great looking veggies Susan! And it ain't easy growing anything in this awful heat, is it!? I think we've had fewer 100+ days than y'all and a little more rain, but I'm still struggling to keep things alive here.
I think we had those caterpillars eating all our dill and parsley last summer. Seems someone told me they become a something something swallowtail butterfly? Anyhoo, now you can just get the fake butterfly in the jar for your littles and let the guy rest in peace ;).
Happy Summer!
