Seduce: to win over; attract

Yarn seduces me with her siren call. "Pick me! Pick me!" I am hopelessly enchanted by yarn and am delighted by the endless choices.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

People of Irish heritage (and even those who aren't) in the United States love to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. And while it is a national holiday in Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is more of a religious holiday.

Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.

"May you have love that never ends,
lots of money and lots of friends.
Health be yours whatever you do,
and may God send many blessing to you!"

And I couldn't pass up the opportunity to leave you with a joke...

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to a crowd of drinkers. He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers. I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here that can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back." The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan's offer.

One man leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder. "Is your bet still good?" asks the Irishman.

The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back.

The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement.

The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for the 30 minutes you were gone?"

The Irishman replies, "Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first."

Busy Bees

Yep, I've been busy as a bee.

We had company for the 4th of July weekend. And it was a rainy weekend! but between the rain showers, golf was played, swimming occurred, and the fireworks even went off with their loud booms!

And now to cleanup and get ready for my oldest daughter and her two kids. She is bringing her best friend and her two kids to visit us. Ellie is hoping Bailey comes too!

Hopefully the weather will be good for a day or two (there is rain predicted for the week)

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to the father of my children. You are a wonderful father, a hero to your girls, and an awesome grandpa!
I know it's been too hot here for you to go fishing but you can look at pictures of the lake while sipping ice tea and staying cool inside!

Wishing all Father's a Happy Father's Day!

National Strawberry Picking Day!

It's National Strawberry Picking Day! Yum!!

Even though strawberry season is about finished here in Texas, today you should get out and pick some of those lushes berries. You can find good prices for the berries especially if you pick them yourself. And don't they taste even sweeter when you've done all the hard work to get them?

Besides tasting delicious, strawberries are good for you. They have vitamin C and are packed with flavonoids. The flavonoids in strawberries help with the "bad" cholesterol keeping it from oxidizing and damaging artery walls. And if that's not enough, eating strawberries help fight against cancer!!

More great info on strawberries can be found here. It includes a link to some interesting facts and trivia about strawberries. Can you imagine how many strawberries it would take to squeeze to get the juice just so you could bathe in it?! Would you want to??

Not only do I love eating fresh strawberries, whole or cut up, I love them dipped in chocolate! especially dark chocolate!! Strawberry jam is good, strawberry short cake is wonderful, and then there is strawberry pie, and the best? fresh strawberries on vanilla ice cream, yum! hmmmmm..... have to go get some more strawberries (I ate all the ones we had. That is also why there is no strawberry pictures.)

There are all kinds of recipes out there using strawberries. Betty Crocker, All Recipes.com, ... just google strawberry recipes, you'll get hundreds.

And for more Strawberry holidays, check out this blog. (you may have to scroll down for the list)

Hope you have a strawberrylious day!!

Happy New Year!

A new year is unfolding--like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within.

Glory to God in highest heaven,
Who unto man His Son hath given;
While angels sing with tender mirth,
A glad new year to all the earth.
~Martin Luther

A very joyous and happy new year to all!

Christmas pics

Over the river and through the woods...to the grandkid's house we go...

through the white and drifting snow!
Who would'a thought we'd have a second snow storm here!! It was hardly snowing when we left on Christmas Eve but it got worse and the roads were horrible. I am happy to say we made it (only took 7 hrs for a 4-4 1/2 hr trip!!!!) I've learned they don't have snow plows or trucks to treat the roads here in this part of TX. ??? maybe they should if we're gonna get snow (like they're predicting for today, Tues).

They got us up at 5am! so here are a few Christmas pictures...

They hardly look awake themselves but they were excited.
It was too snowy outside to ride the scooters so they rode laps around the house.

Even Ellie had fun...
and she tried to hide it from Bailey

So anyway... we made it, had a great Christmas and are now home.
