A new project started (lol)

Fred & George socks from the "Unofficial Harry Potter Knits" magazine.
I love how it is working up so far.

An update on the variegated fingerless mitts

I'm not sure how long I'll make the cuff but I probably won't make them the 7" that the pattern suggests.

Cable Block #2

I feel I'm behind with my goal of finishing two blocks per month.  lol.

I also start another pair of mitts "Owlie Mitts" Yes they will have little owls on them.  But there is only two rounds done so I didn't take a picture of them yet.

It's starting out to be a fingerless mitt year, lol.

To Swatch or Not to Swatch....

... it depends on what the project is

A gauge swatch can be a good thing.   It can tell you if the yarn/color is right for the stitch/project you're planning on knitting.   It can tell you if you'll like knitting with the yarn.   

You definitely do NOT want to knit a sweater and sew it all together and try it on and find out it doesn't fit!  

A gauge swatch is your friend.   So I've heard.  

But I know I am not the only one out there who has knitted a gauge swatch, danced with glee when the gauge is correct, knitted the project and then find something is not quite right. (the fit, the color, the pattern, etc)

But I still persist in knitting a gauge swatch for certain fitted items. [sigh]

The last WIP Wednesday for 2011

Another pair of Garter Stitch Striped Mitts and a Scarf to match!

My winter coat and jacket are black.  What better way to accessorize than with a red and black (with a touch of grey) scarf and mitts.

The mitts need seamed and the scarf is over half done. 
I'll try to get it finished by Saturday night bringing my total finished projects for the year up to 32.  (that's 6 more than last year!)

Cables!

Yes I like cables.   And as I mentioned... here's the finished scarf, hat, and mitts...

The first half of the cable class went well.  Everyone was excited about trying to knit cables.  They all ended up with homework, lol.  I will have them start their cable projects next week at the second half of the class.

(I may make the pattern available to purchase at a later date)

Goodbye knitting year 2010

Thinking about the last day of year and reflecting back, I was curious as to just how many knitted projects I actually finished.

Wow!! here are 25 projects finished in 2010

and the finished Crazy Socks makes 26!!

I didn't realize just how much knitting I was able to accomplish. And I didn't even count the miscellaneous things like some dishcloths or some small, quick (mini socks) items. Or any of the counted thread/cross-stitch items I finished.

I see I managed to knit 11 pairs of socks! Of course I didn't keep them all but I did add 6 pairs to my sock drawer!! woohoo! adding to my sock drawer was one of the goals for 2010. (we will not count the wips left in 2010)

I say I had a good knitting year.  How about you?

Swan Maiden Mitts Redux

Needles: Hiya Hiya 9" circular, US 1/2.25mm

I've been on a fingerless glove/mitt knitting spree. So the socks have been sitting there looking at me. I moved them to the craft room and closed the door.

I'll get back to the socks after the holidays. You know there will be new mystery socks in Jan!

Before Next

Before I could start the next mystery sock, this jumped on my needles.


It's a fingerless glove in ShiBui Staccato, color - Poodle (cute name, huh?)


It is a 1x1 rib with a small feather and fan panel on the top of the hand.




On another note...

I did finish one of my Halloween socks.

Black Monday

   BLACK ...the absence of all color.


Today is the final day in the 8 week mini meme COLOR hosted by Jen at unglazed.


BLACK can convey elegance, sophistication, or even a touch of mystery. BLACK can be seen as a restful emptiness from which anything may emerge. BLACK, the unknown, can provide a sense of potential and possibility.


I didn't realize the possibilities of how much BLACK there is surrounding us everyday until I started looking.

I finished the Cupcake Mitts and then ate the chocolate one. .. yummm!

(I'm glad I'm in FL and missing all the snow!! We're getting rain here and it is 37 degrees. But no snow.)

Cupcake Mitts

The January kal for the Fingerless Glove Fanatics is Cupcake Mittlets by Shantha Ramachandran.
I managed to get one mitt started last Sunday while sitting in the hospital room waiting for my new granddaughter. I worked a little on them on Monday but didn't get much done. I haven't worked on them since.

Now that everyone has rested (somewhat), I will be able to find a little time while the baby sleeps to knit.
