Yep, it's Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter. You can catch the story at the Official Web Site of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
And another story from ABC news ABC News: Punxsutawney Phil Sees His Shadow.
And just in case you need to know...
The Wikipedia website explains Groundhog Day began as:
"...a Pennsylvania German custom in southeastern and central Pennsylvania in the 18th and 19th centuries, has its origins in ancient European weather lore, wherein a badger or sacred bear is the prognosticator as opposed to a groundhog."
Many people gather around to watch the animal emerge from its burrow. If the weather was cloudy it would not see it shadow and winter would end. BUT, if is was sunny, it would see it's shadow and it would run back inside!! Therefore predicting another six weeks of winter!
Both my parents are from Pennsylvania. My one aunt still lives in Punxsutawney. So you can see why I'm all excited about today and what "Phil" has or has not seen. I grew up with all this excitement. It was a big day around our house.
Growing up we all wanted Phil to see his shadow and have more winter weather (were we dumb kids or what?!). We were hoping for some snow and to get out of going to school. Then we could bundle up, go outside to play in the white fluffy stuff, and freeze our tushi off. Now I'm older and wiser (ok, ok... just older) and I don't care for the cold and the white fluffy stuff. (you know we did move to TX last year)
So there ya have it folks... more winter weather. I'm just glad I'm home and not still in Ohio!

I still love the white fluffy stuff, my joints don't but my eyes do. I hope you moved to a part of Texas that has not been having the nasty weather though since you don't like the cold.
No snow here in the bay area, so we never got that excuse for not having to go to school. On the other hand, I don't have to deal with scraping ice off my windshield.
