Seduce: to win over; attract

Yarn seduces me with her siren call. "Pick me! Pick me!" I am hopelessly enchanted by yarn and am delighted by the endless choices.

Sock pattern

Remember these?     Walk Across Texas socks
I knitted these socks for the Summer of Color Contest using Simply Sock Yarn Solid Sock.

I came up with the striping sequence by assigning the numbers 2, 4, 6 (repeated) to the alphabet and then used the numbers that corresponded to my name.  2-6-2-2-4
I then added a little texture stitch to one of the stripes (yellow). It was great fun knitting these socks with my name knitted in them.

You can find the pattern on Simply Sock Yarn Company blog (scroll down) or here.

Enjoy!

Not a sock winner

First I want to thank everyone who voted for my socks.  Thank you! Thank you!

The winners have been announced and sadly I am not one of them.

Click on over to Simply Sock Yarn Company Blog to see the winning socks.

There were some great socks knitted and entered. I had fun coming up with the striping sequence and knitting the stripe socks. The mosaic socks were a new challenge since I had never tried it before.

So I may not be a sock contest winner but I'm still a winner because I have a great pair of striped socks to wear! (My daughter took the mosaic ones so she is a winner of the mosaic socks, lol)

Thank you all again for your support and votes!

A-Maze-ing (socks)

Ta da!
I did manage to get the mosaic socks finished in time to submit for the Summer of Color contest!!!

I have never knitted a mosaic anything. Being me... I went to library and checked out knitting books about mosaic knitting. The charts are read different from the usual chart reading. The little squares on the side tell you what stitches are knitted leaving the black squares which are slipped. or is it vice versa?! It was definitely a challenge! I thought, hmmm.... maybe I won't knit mosaic socks for the contest. But then I had this lovely yarn, which is a dream to knit with, I had to give it a try.

So I dug through my sock books and found the pattern "Maze" in Charlene Schurch's Sensational Knitted Socks. It was a good thing she had the directions written out along with the chart. I did find it easier to understand the written direction than trying to figure out the chart!

I made a couple of changes: I did a solid foot with a four round stripe near the toe instead of continuing the maze pattern down the instep. I also did a regular slip-stitched heel flap instead of the garter stitched edged heel flap.

Yarn used was Simply Sock Yarn Company Solid Socks in Blue Violet and Periwinkle. I bought two of each but only used 13 grams from one hank of Periwinkle and 66 grams of the Blue Violet. Enough yarn left to make something else! (socks, maybe??)

I used US 1/2.25mm dpns (my 9" circulars were in use on one of the other 5 pairs of socks I have in progress)

As soon as Allison at Simply Sock Yarn Company has the sock pictures posted for voting, I'll let you know.

It will be hard to decide which socks I like best, the mosaic ones or the striped ones.

You can find more pictures and information here on my Ravelry page.

Will I make another pair of mosaic socks?   maybe.

But I think I like knitting cables the best!

Walk Across Texas socks

Walk Across Texas socks walking their way to Simply Sock Yarn Company (SSYC) Summer of Color Sock Contest.

Using SSYC Solid Sock Yarn (80% superwash wool, 20% nylon) in colors Black, Finch, and Cerulean.

Great yarn! It is super soft and has great stitch definition.  Sixty-six beautiful hand-dyed colors to choose from.

...just a few hazards on their way...

...water??!   in the desert?  oh, it must be an oasis...

It was fun to knit up these socks. More details can be found here.

And don't forget to check all the sock pictures at SSYC when they get posted.

WIP Wednesday

Still working on socks.

But, I have no new pictures because I've set all the socks aside to work on the stripey sock for the Summer of Color contest.

I'm excited about the sock. I think it is looking good. It definitely is different from the normal colors I'd wear. Which is a good thing ya know, stepping outside my color comfort zone.

Pictures will be posted later.

Want more sock yarn?

Allison at Simply Sock Yarn Co. posted about a new tradition, 12 Days of Sock Yarn.

Visit her blog everyday from Dec 13-24th and answer the holiday or knitting question. You'll be entered for a chance to win a prize (yarn, of course!!). That is 12 chances to win!! of course that means you have to visit her blog everyday and answer the question.

Allison has some great yarn. She has recently added her own line of sock yarn in gorgeous solid colors. The SSYC yarn is soft and the colors give great stitch definition. I used Sunflower

for the Sep Mystery Sock. She also has Malabrigo, Austerman, Schaefer, Dream in Color, Shibui, and many others to choose from. So go check out the yarn and don't forget to check out her blog!

*please forgive my photography, my camera does not do justice to the vibrant yellow color.
