Tractors everywhere

Yesterday we went to an Antique Tractor  & Engine Show.  We miss going to those shows. They had them all the time in MD and VA.
We did go early because it has been hot lately.  Good thing because after two hours we were dripping from the heat! But we had a good time watching the tractor pulling and walking around looking at some small, antique engines.

On a knitting note... I found the picture of the white and blue socks I knitted to match the little Sailor Cardigan.

I used the same Debbie Bliss Eco Baby cotton that I used for the cardigan.

And this week I knitted another pair of baby socks. These are for a class I'll be teaching. (maybe)

Yarn: SMC Egypto Cotton.  Needles: US 2 dpns.  Pattern: "Quick Take-off for Little Pilots" from the book Knitting For Little Feet.

It is not a beginner sock pattern and so far beginners have signed up for the class.  So I may have to do a different sock from that book.

And I started another pair of fingerless mitts...

Yarn: Zara.  Needles: US3 & US 5 dpns.  Pattern: Cocoa Rosa (rav link) by Catherine Shields (Studio Marlowe)

I love this yarn! I love the pattern!! I love the brown and pink colors of the original gloves but I need to use Red and White for one of the Nerd Wars challenge.

My needlepoint has suffered a bit with all the knitting but I'll show a few pictures of it later in the week.

Good Grief!

It is hard to believe a month has past and I did not have a blog post!!  And I have been remiss in reading blogs (I apologize).
I am fine just been busy with the usual.  And of course not enough "time" to do it all.

I have a busy month planned for June but I will try to post at least once a week (wish me luck with that happening, hehehe)

Baby Socks and a Hat to match!

I had started out on the knitting machine but ended up dropping about 40 sts!!!! so I carefully picked up the stitches and put them on a US9.  Then I noticed the uneven stitches. :rip it, rip it:  I hear the frogs.

Yellow sweater revisited

Ta da...

...the yellow sweater filled with baby! She looks so cute! The sweater is a little big which is good. She can wear it a little while. I didn't cuff the socks. She's wearing them as knee socks for now. (maybe they'll stay on better?)




Today was her first outing. She had a doctor's appointment.

Of course she had to wear her new sweater!

Her doctor's visit went well. She is gaining weight and doing fine.

She stayed awake for two hours after she ate this afternoon. She was so cute making faces and trying to talk. Then she took an hour and a half nap. And it was time to eat again!!

Hard part is done!

After numerous gate changes and delays, I did manage to make it in time for our new granddaughter's birth.

She was born Monday, January 18th. We were expecting a big baby but she surprised us all. She weighed 6 lb. 10 oz! and she is adorable!!


Mother and baby doing well. She opened her eyes and looked at her mommy when she was 4 minutes old.


They had great care from a wonderful doctor and helpful nurses.



She is a sweet baby!

She hardly cries. She eats, sleeps, and poops. You know, the usual baby stuff.


I love to just sit and hold her and watch the cute faces she makes.

She smiled at her daddy first. She loves to hear his voice. When her mommy is trying to feed her and he talks, she stops eating and looks for him.





Going home...

After a long and busy day on Wednesday, we're ready to go home.


The hard part is over. The fun part begins!

The ribbon won!

I started an i-cord but just wasn't happy with it. It might have looked better if I had some dark blue yarn for an i-cord. It was lost as the same color.

I don't have much ribbon stash and didn't think the white ribbon would look as good.

The Yellow Baby Set (trust me, it is a pale yellow)


I started the yellow baby sweater on New Year's Day. It worked up quickly so I had to start a pair of socks!

Of course it wouldn't be complete without a hat...
which I finished the hat last night.

I think the new to be granddaughter will be warm in her sweater set.

I started these in July and put them aside to work on baby stuff and Christmas stuff.

I love the cables! The Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk yarn is luscious! So soft!

I found the yellow cat buttons at Yarn Heaven in Arlington TX. They are so cute!

And I couldn't resist knitting a pair of socks

She may have a lot of socks but now she'll have a pair knitted by gramma.

I used the same yarn as the sweater and size US 4 dpns. The pattern is a basic sock pattern with a k2, p2 ribbing on the leg, and the foot stockinette.

(you knew I'd get a pair of socks done for the new year! lol)

I love this pattern. It is working up quickly (yes, even using the smaller needles). The yarn is lovely to work with for an acrylic/nylon/rayon.

I would change one thing. I would k2tog instead of binding off the 2 seam stitches when placing the sleeve stitches on a holder. Binding them off creates a little hole that I will have to sew closed.

Two sleeves to go, sew 2 tiny holes closed, add buttons and I'll be finished!! and Bonus! I have enough yarn left to make a pair of baby socks and a hat. (of course I may have bought some extra yarn just so I could make socks to go with the sweater. I am such a sock addict, lol)

Casting On for 2010

Casting on for the new year...
...a baby sweater for the new, soon to be born, granddaughter.

And you thought I'd only be working on WIPs, hahahahaha, my fingers were itching to start something new.
So yesterday, while watching Ohio State trounce Oregon, I started the new year by casting on for a new knitting project.

But! just so you know... I did finish one of the WIPs...(actually finished these on New Year's Eve)
Yep, the yeller socks are done!! I love the pattern but still not crazy about yellow. But I think I'll keep these ones for myself.
