Game 7

I am not a happy camper.  Nope.  I can't believe the Rangers couldn't pull it off.  They had plenty of opportunities.

They've gone to the World Series twice and couldn't win it.  Sad.

Well, back to my knitting.

Game 6

Tonight is Game 6.  Could this game be it?!  Keep your fingers crossed and cheer on Rangers!!

Bet you're wondering if I've been watching the World Series.  duh!  YES!!

And I was really disappointed the Rangers did not win the first game.  But they did win the second one!!  woo hoo!

They return home for the third game in the series.  Yep, I'll be watching tonight.  Go Rangers!!

Rangers Win!!

Rangers are the American League champs!!  AND are going to the World Series for the second time!

After a great third inning, the Rangers dominated the game to win over the Tigers with a final score 15-5.

So now we wait while the National League's final game is played this evening. 

And The World Series starts Wednesday.

Catching up

I apologize for the blog silence.  I've just been busy and haven't been on the internet much this past week.

I have been knitting a hat for the local yarn shop.

It was knitted flat and then seamed together using the mattress stitch.  Then it was flattened with the seam in back and the top was sewn closed.  I used Rowan Creative Focus Worsted and US7 needles.

Our local knitting guild is sponsoring a HUGE knitting event at the library October 1st.  We will have tables set up with information, demonstrations, we'll have knitting in public, knitting games, and drawings.  Throughout the month of October we will have knitted items displayed in the 6 large, glass display cases in the library lobby.  I have been busy getting things ready for this event.

I have been busy planning lessons for my knitting classes.  Last night I had a class on different ways to cast on and bind off.  It was a fun class and I think everyone enjoyed it.

I don't have any new sock pictures. 

I do have a picture of our pool.  The water situation is no better so we have closed the pool.  Ellie thinks she is the official pool inspector, lol.

And of course we are watching the Rangers!!   GO RANGERS!

So if I don't blog much over the next few weeks, please forgive me.

What's up with the Rangers?! How embarrassing! I am sadly disappointed with the last two games.

Let's hope they do better on Sat. (I hope we get to see it but we will be at the fair) (maybe if we don't watch it, they'll win)

Rangers Rock!!

The Rangers beat the Yankees 6-1 last night!  Go Rangers!! They are now on their way to the World Series for the first time in their franchise history.

Looking forward to next Wednesday when the World Series starts.

Baseball

My favorite sport!

I can remember going to a baseball game with my dad. We saw the Washington Senators (boy does that date me!!)

Later I became an avid Atlanta Braves fan.  Mostly because my choices of teams to watch was them or the Cubs. Atlanta was way better! It was disappointing Atlanta waited until we went back over seas (so no television) to start winning. But their successful years were in the 90s. Which I did get to watch.

We have always watched baseball.  And we have managed to visit a few ball parks: Camden Yards, Turner Field, Kauffman Stadium, AT&T Park, The Coliseum, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, and we even visited Franklin Covey Field a minor league park in Utah.  It would be nice to travel around and visit ALL the ball parks!

Which now brings me to how well (or not) the Rangers are playing. Imagine our joy and surprise when the Rangers won the ALDS against Tampa Bay. We were excited but knowing they would play the Yankees next, we weren't too hopeful.

They lost the first game. Boo!  But then redeemed themselves by winning the next game.  And then went to Yankee Stadium and won 2 out of the three there!! Yea Rangers! They are up 3 games to 2 over the Yankees for a chance to play in the World Series. They will be playing Friday night. Keep your fingers crossed they stomp the Yankees!  It's Time!

Oh...Did I mention I played fastpitch softball in my teens?  And I played second base on the Navy wives team while living in Italy (A split lip and stitches was the worst injury of that baseball career, lol)

p.s. I'm also glad the Giants beat the Phillies!

Sad baseball game

Disappointing baseball day! The Rangers lost again!  Just when you get your hopes up, they are dashed. The Rangers were up two games to zero over the Tampa Bay Rays and came home and lost the next two games. They are now forced to play a fifth game in Tampa Bay.

Can they win again in Tampa Bay?  (we'll see Tuesday night)

Yes, we have been watching baseball. It's our favorite sport! It is disappointing though to see Cleveland struggle. They start out winning 7-0, keep the other team from scoring the whole game, and WHAM! they lose it in the 9th. At least when Texas is losing it's WHAM! they WIN it in the 9th! gotta love it!

Last night the World Series Game 5 was continued. As much as I wanted Tampa Bay to win, it did not happen. Sad. But it was great they made it to the series! The games were good (sorta of). And I am not totally upset that Philly won. Just dissappointed it didn't last longer and I now have to wait until Spring.

Crochet?!

Yes, I crochet too. I like to crochet afghans and baby blankets. So when I found out the Fiber Arts Guild of West Texas has two service projects, I was happy to help.

In Feb, May, and Aug, they donate Preemie sets (blanket, cap, and booties) to the two local hospitals. In Nov, they donate lap throws/blankets to a nursing home.

I like to knit (or crochet) while traveling and since I'm the navigator, I have plenty of time to do it! So my latest project has been "Lacy Blocks" from the book Quick and Cozy Afghans. I used Carron Simply Soft, 100% acrylic. I used 3 (6oz.) skeins of white and a size H crochet hook. I did modifiy the pattern by changing the size so I only chained 121 and did the repeats 5 times. This gave me the required size of 30" x 40"

I love this pattern and have made it several times. It works up quickly and is an easy pattern to memorize. But I'm not crazy about working with the Carron yarn because it splits easily. It is soft so it does make a wonderful blanket.

So now that project is finished and ready for Nov's Fiber Arts Guild meeting.

And...I've started another crochet project. I am hoping this one will be done in time for Christmas. I know we have at least two trips planned in Nov so I should be able to get this one done in time to mail for Christmas.

I'm using Bernat Satin Sport and a size G crochet hook. It is an easy 2 row repeat: row 1, shells; row 2, chain and sc. decreasing a shell every other row. (at least that's how it's looking so far). The pattern is off the yarn label.

Baseball Update:
It was a good game last night even though Tampa Bay did not win. Their starting pitcher was a little shakey the first inning but then settled down. The score was close, 3-2 Phillies. Let's hope tonight is in favor of Tampa Bay!

World Series starts!

The World Series starts tonight!
We are huge baseball fans and are looking forward to watching Tampa Bay kick butt! Not that we're big Rays fans but we like them better than Phillies.
We use to be big Atlanta Braves fans but several years ago moved over to the other side (American League). Our favorite teams, yes teams, are Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers. But since they aren't playing, we'll be cheering the Rays on to victory!!

Here is a good article from mlb.com about the "fresh" matchup for the World Series. I think it is great that the Rays, who have never been to a World Series, get to play the Phillies, who haven't won a World Series in 28 years. It is refreshing that we don't have to watch the same teams play over and over again every year. I say let someone else have a chance.

And now...
I'll be patiently (well, I try to be patient (ha!)) waiting for the game to start.

Weekend with grandkids

We spent the weekend with the grandkids. It is great living close enough that we can visit on the weekends or whenever we want. Not like before when we lived so far away we only got to see them twice a year.

So we had plenty of time for this:

We also played with trains, with baby dolls, and pretend shopping. They have a little shopping cart and lots and lots of plastic food! One will take the cart and the other will take the baby stroller with the baby (of course!) and walk through the house pretending they are going to Wal-Mart. Then when they get back from "Wal-Mart," they cook the food for gramma. yum yum!



On Saturday, we went to see the Texas Rangers play the Cleveland Indians. Everyone was excited. The kids brought their gloves and the #1 finger to wave. We were there in time to see some batting practice. Then the clouds rolled in, then the thunder and lightening started, and then rain! We were lucky enough to be sitting up under the cover so we did not have to run out of the rain. Because of the lightening they asked all the fans to leave the upper decks. We waited hoping the it wouldn't last long.



After a 1 1/2 hr rain delay, the game finally started. The kids had gone through most of their snacks by then and after a long day with no nap! they were still behaving well. By the end of a very long 4th inning it was Rangers 7, Indians 1. We thought we could safely leave and the Rangers would keep their lead. HA! Double HA!! We got home, quickly turned the game on only to see it was tied! Sadly the Rangers lost, 8-7. But happily the Indians won! Isn't it great when you get to see both your favorite teams play?!






I did manage to get a little knitting done this weekend. I usually try to take some mindless knitting for the car ride so this weekend I worked on dishrags. (I'm finally getting a start on some Christmas gifts) : )
