New Month

New Challenges Projects

But first.... a report on Six Sock September
Sadly I did not meet the challenge.  I had too many other things going on.  But!  I did get 2 complete socks done and no, they are not from the same pair.

First sock done, Winter Fir (I guess I forgot to take a picture :sheepish grin:  I'll get one taken tomorrow)

Second sock done and mate is done through clue 3, SKA Sep/Oct Mystery Sock

Third sock, Weeping Angel (still lovin' this sock!!)

I also finished the test mittens and they were put in the mail last week.

And now for the new...

Yep, it is another pair of fingerless mitts!

There is a new mystery sock for the Solid Sock group.  I did print off Clue 1 but haven't decided if I'll start it yet.
I do have a few sock mates to work on. hehehe

AND tournament 6 of  Nerd Wars starts today! I did look at the challenges but haven't figured out yet what knitting to do for them.

Emma's Star Beret from the Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders book (at least a start to it)

It's a top down construction.  I've never done a hat this way before.  I'm using Zara a 100% merino superwash DK weight and US 4 needles. 
So far I'm liking it.

Beaded Lacey Wristlets

I made a pair of these years ago and couldn't find the ribbon yarn anymore.  Last week our lys got in katia Acuario and I thought I'd try it.  

So far it's working well.  The test will come when they're done.

(I finished and mailed off the seekret knitting so now back to my sock knitting, hehehe)

(they are addicting!)  I do have my YOSS JUL sock yarn wound.  And surprise!! it will also count towards July's Solid Sock Group sock too.  sweet!

A quick update on the YOSS Monkey Socks

 I'm at the gusset decreases and the foot, yea!! and I still have one week to finish the mate, lol.

Something new...

 I'm test knitting a shawl pattern.  So far I'm lovin' it!!!!  

But my camera doesn't take true color pictures.  The true color of the yarn is turquoise.  It is Crystal Palace Panda Silk.  Love it!  The shawl starts at the neck and works its way out.  We'll see how much I love it when I get to 100s of stitches, lol

I worked a little on the Advent Calendar Scarf.  


I knitted day 7 & 8.  I'd like to get through day 12 finished to be half way done but realistically I might get through day 10.


This scarf is fun to knit.  By the time you've worked through the lace pattern of the day, you're done with it.  So no getting bored with the same pattern.  Win-Win!  I'm also learning some new lace patterns.






Don't panic... I'm still working on socks in between working on the lace.  lol.   I'll have some more pictures of the socks later.

This week I worked on the Advent Calendar Scarf

Monday night was the local Knitting Guild meeting.  Our program for the evening was on Fair Isle and Stranded Knitting.   We had a small project to try stranded knitting.  I finished mine the next day.  Cute little cup cozy.

The Sweater Challenge week 8...NOT!

Scarf love!  YES!!

 Instead of the weekly update on the sweater challenge, we bring you this brief blog about scarf love.

I have 3 scarves on the needles and after seeing SuKnitWitty's new scarf obsession, I find I must start another scarf! I have the perfect yarn in my stash. So it will be a stash buster!  And bonus... I'll have a head start on Christmas gifts. win-win!!

 To get back to the scarves...

... I need to get a cable scarf finish for a class I am teaching. So my Advent Calendar Scarf and my Glitter Scarf are now on hold along with my Entomology Scarf.

So I told the Wed Knit girls I'd be working on my scarf and they could take a break from their sweater knitting.  SuKnitWitty was all for that since she is currently obsessed with the Progressive Scarf.  Gina didn't get the memo. But, she has a deadline to meet on a hat project. So it was Scarves and a Hat Wednesday!

And of course there was plenty of tea!

Glitter Scarf by Carla Boustead-Willingham


I am test knitting this pattern using Mirasol Nuna (40% merino Wool, 40% silk, 20% bamboo) instead of lace weight yarn.

Sooooo soft and luscious, beautiful drape.

I am using US4 straight needles.  (in case you were wondering)

My Advent Calendar Scarf

I have actually completed one repeat of the Day 2 with beads. The beads are purple but depending on the light they change color.

You know I picked out all the purple ones from the mixed bag. Well, I need to buy some more. There is not enough purple left to do the second repeat.

But I like the beads so much better than the nupps!!

And a mitt...

I finished one mitt minus the thumb and started the second mitt.

I love the color and the tiny twist to the stitches in the ribbing.



Now I'm off to work on my sweater. It is Wed. Knit Group day and the day to work on sweaters!

Not much progress on my wips although I have been busy.

Right Twist Ribbed Fingerless Mitts

A basic ribbed fingerless mitt with a right twist thrown in for a different look.

I used Knit 1 Crochet 2 Crock-O-Dye color 289 (reds).  It has 15% silk in in! s-o-o-o soft.

My Advent Calendar Scarf

I have ripped out frogged the nupps and added beads.

Of course I did not realize I would be frogging the nupps and then frogging the beaded rows 2 times!!

It does make a difference in the stitch count when you forget or drop (don't know which I did) a yarn over.

AND of course you don't discover that error until you've done 3 more rows and the beads are not lining up like they should.

It is hard to see but the beads used in place of nupps are a purple color. (and yes, I did pick them out from  a bag of mixed beads)

Maybe next week I'll have a new sock (or two) to show you. I haven't started February's socks yet. (and no, I have not finished the green Monkeys or the Teal cable socks. I like to have lots of choices to choose from depending on what I feel like knitting)

... a quick wip Wednesday post

I did finish one of the blue socks, did the spacer rows (8) and start the next section on the scarf, but did not work on the green sock.

It doesn't sound like much knitting but I did research and a swatch for the Master Knitter program. 

I also found myself spending hours with websurfing and reading blogs.  (really cuts into the knitting time, lol)

So hopefully I'll have a bit more done for next Wednesday.
