Grand Canyon

AWESOME!!

For our anniversary we took a trip to the Grand Canyon.  It is beautiful! The first day we saw the west side of the South Rim.  The second day we saw the east side of the South Rim and of course we stopped in the middle.  It is gorgeous no matter what side you view.

I can't rave enough about it awesomeness.  And it is wonderful that we got to see it. 

These pictures are just a small selection out of the 150 I took!  We had a great trip.

Traveling and knitting

By now you have been wondering what I've been up to and why I haven't blogged in f-o-r-e-v-e-r!

We went on a road trip. A very long road trip.  4,130 miles worth of road trip. Fifteen states in two weeks worth of road trip. We crossed over the Mississippi before it flooded and wondered if we'd be able to get back across it!

We got to see family (the purpose of the trip).  It was very hard to leave everyone but we did have a good visit.

And we did make it back across the swollen Mississippi River.

I made sure I took plenty of traveling knitting. Probably way too much but hey, you never know. My plan was to work on sock mates and finish a scarf. I did not get as much knitting done as I thought.  BUT... I did finally finish March's Year of Stash Socks and one scarf.

And I am working on the mate to this sock....

Now I'll catch up with my blog reading.

Happy Blogiversary!

Yep, one year ago today I started a blog. It's hard to believe it has been a year. Time passes quickly when you're having fun!! like adding to the yarn stash, knitting, seeing a bit of Texas, knitting, moving into a house, knitting, making new friends, and did I mention knitting?!

I actually started this blog to ramble on about how much I love yarn and knitting and needlepoint, sort of a yarn journal. Well, I've occasionally gotten off the yarn path to brag about the grandkids or even mention some of the neat places we've visited.






So today, SuKnitWitty, GinaP and I got together for our Wed knitting and we played Scrabble.

Of course we had our knitting!! But not much knitting was done.

SuKnitty managed to find a spot to spell yarn (what good would Scrabble be if we couldn't fit in knitting words?!)

We munched some salsa and chips, chatted, and had a great time. Check out SuKnitWitty's take on the game here. (We tried to get her to play a third time so she could win but no-o-o-o... she was done tryin to fit in those new fangled Texas words, "Bless her heart"

It has been a good year and although I may not blog everyday, I think I'll keep at it (or should I say tryin?)

Road Trip to...

Buffalo Gap, Texas
13 miles SW of Abilene
79.4 miles N of San Angelo
Population 446 (Salute!!)
So named because of all the buffalo that passed through. A point on the great western cattle trail.




On a cloudy morning, SuKnitWitty, two of her school mates, and I headed north. We were on a mission... we were going to the Pottery & Gallery of Buffalo Gap. It was filmed last October by Texas Country Reporter, Bob Phillips and one of the girls wanted to visit it. Sounded like a good day trip to me! (I'm always up for shopping)

After many winding roads through mostly desert looking terrain (yes, lots of cactus) and a field of wind turbines (really cool to see!), we made it...
We met the owner and potter, George Holland, who gave us an interesting and educational tour of the art of pottery making throwing pots. Since I have never seen or even tried anything pottery like, I enjoyed learning and seeing how it is made from start to finish.





And by finish I mean finish!! George demonstrated how to use the Egg Cooker to poach an egg and also cooked an omelet. I was sold!! I had to have one of the Microwave Egg Cookers. (and the Apple Cooker sounded neat too so I got one). There were many other pieces that I would love to have from a wine cooler to bowls but I will save them for another trip.

Yes, I have tried my Egg Cooker and can highly recommend it! It is great! I love omelets. Then of course I had to try the Apple Cooker. Let's just say I've had baked apples and ice cream for desert every night... wonderful! (oh, and please don't tell my doctor, I'm sure he wouldn't want to know about the ice cream)

Next came lunch. We ate enchiladas and tacos at Lola's. Very laid back. Usually you go in back and order your food and then go back to get it. But since we were first timer's they brought us menus and served us.

After a filling lunch, we toured the Historic District...

A very enjoyable trip. I must've talked non-stop to Don about it when I got home!

It is well worth the trip to visit George & Wanda Holland's Pottery & Gallery.

Back from the snowy north

Yes, we're b-a-c-k! And yes, it was cold!! I froze my tushi!


It was -17 degrees when we got to Ohio and only warmed up to 20 (so they said). It also snowed everyday. I do not and I repeat, do not miss the snow and cold. (just a little sample picture of the backyard at my in-laws)

I had hurt my knee before we left for Ohio so I was extra careful in walking (or trying to) in the snow!

I know, I know, there are plenty of you that live in the north and love the snow. My one sister-in-law loves the snow and wants to move back to Colorado. She loves all the snow sports. So yes, I'll admit it, I'm a wuss!!

We got home after a long, long day in the airport, two plane rides and a long car ride (4 1/2 hrs) to 70 degrees. To top that off, today was a high 83! So I have now gone from one extreme to the other.

They are predicting Saturday will have a high of 52 degrees. (no wonder I'm still coughing and sniffling)

Ok, enough whining about the cold...
